Sometimes it can be hard to get the natural curl back into your hair if it’s too dry or damaged. This can happen if your hair has been relaxed, has been exposed to too much heat, been over-colored or just generally mistreated for a while. Curls need moisture to thrive, and all of the above suck the moisture right out of your hair and flatten your curls. If you’ve spent a long time trying to hide your curls only to wish for them to make an appearance now, there are things you can do to heighten your chances of reviving your curls. Using cream to make natural hair curly is a good place to start when trying to breathe some life back into your curls.
What Does Curl Cream Do?
A curl cream will not only add moisture to your hair but also lock it in. This will, in turn, condition your hair and reduce frizz. Lots of curl creams will also create a cast over your hair so you can then ‘scrunch out the crunch’ once it’s dry to reveal soft, bouncy curls.
The amount of curl cream you need depends on your curl type and your hair length, so a bit of common sense and trial and error go a long way.
Cream To Make Natural Hair Curly
There are so many curl creams on the market today that it can be really difficult to find one that works for you, and what works for one person might not work for the next person. It really is a minefield of curl cream – but we’re here to help. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite curl creams to make the process easier for you.
Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie
The Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie can be used to create a cast on wet hair, but it can also be used on dry hair to refresh your curls. The coconut and hibiscus add moisture into your hair and the silk protein and neem oil will help eradicate frizz. Less is more with this product, and you really don’t need a palm-full to get the full benefit of this cream.
However, if your hair is fine, this might weigh it down. Ideally, this product should only be used on thick hair.
As I Am Curling Jelly
As I Am curling jelly defines coils and minimizes frizz. It’s not too heavy and doesn’t weigh the hair down, and a tiny bit goes a long way – one jar of this should really last you quite a while. With all natural ingredients like aloe vera and vitamin E – this jelly will not only add lots of moisture to your hair but also lock it in.
The only downside to this product is that it can’t be used on dry hair to refresh it because it has a tendency to make it sticky. So you’ll either have to dampen your hair to refresh it or use a different product. But all in all, this product is a good buy.
Ors Curls Unleashed Curl Boosting Jelly
The Ors Curls Unleashed Curl Boosting Jelly eliminated frizz and give your hair plenty of bounce without weighing it down or making it hard or sticky. It adds moisture and defines your curls, so it is a firm favorite by many curlies.
The thicker your hair the better with this product. We recommend it for type 4 hair, other hair types might find it a bit too heavy.
Keracare Defining Custard.
The Keracare Defining Custard can be used on a wider range of hair types without weighing it down. It’s best to use sparingly on wet or damp hair because it can go slightly flaky on dry hair. It’s great for wash-and-go and can be used to refresh second-day hair if you dampen your hair first.
We cannot emphasise enough that this product needs to be used sparingly. It can be rather drying and leave a residue over your hair if too much is used all at once.
Cantu Coconut Curling Cream
In a classic case of saving the best ’til last – the Cantu Coconut Curling Cream is our absolute favorite here at BCHQ. It conditions and defines curls, reduces frizz and heals dry, damaged hair. It’s gentle and light enough to be used on all hair types from the slightest wave to the tightest coils – this product will allow to make the most of your natural hair. As with most curl creams, a little goes a long way here – so this product should last you quite a while.
